ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini

Three AI assistants now dominate the conversation: OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini. Each is genuinely impressive. Each has real weaknesses. And the right choice depends entirely on what you're trying to do.

This is a practical breakdown — no hype, no affiliate links — based on using all three extensively across writing, coding, research, and day-to-day tasks.

ChatGPT (OpenAI) is the most feature-complete product. It has the largest plugin ecosystem, image generation via DALL·E built in, voice mode, and the widest range of GPT models to choose from. GPT-4o is fast and capable across almost every task. If you want one tool that can do everything adequately, ChatGPT is still the default choice for most people.

Claude (Anthropic) is where I spend most of my time. It handles long documents better than any competitor — you can drop in an entire book and have a real conversation about it. Its writing is noticeably more natural and less "AI-sounding." It follows complex, multi-step instructions more faithfully than GPT-4o, and it's less likely to hallucinate on nuanced topics. For writing, analysis, and anything requiring careful reasoning, Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the best model available right now.

Stop looking for the best AI. Start finding the best AI for each job you need done.

Gemini (Google) has one killer advantage: Google Search integration. When you need up-to-date information — recent news, current prices, live data — Gemini's ability to pull from the web in real time is genuinely useful. Gemini 1.5 Pro also has the largest context window of the three, making it strong for processing very long documents. The trade-off is that its reasoning and writing quality lag behind Claude and GPT-4o.

Which should you use? Use ChatGPT if you want a generalist tool with the most integrations. Use Claude if writing quality and instruction-following matter — or if you're working with long documents. Use Gemini if you need live web data or are already deep in the Google ecosystem.

The real answer, for anyone serious about AI, is to use all three. Each has moments where it's clearly the best option. The cost of a subscription to each is trivial compared to the productivity gain of using the right tool for the right job.
